Take a look at Encore

This doesn't fill a "thing," but I discovered that Westerville Public Library has gone live with Encore, the highly expensive new search interface from Innovative Interfaces, Inc. Try it out!

That is pretty nice. While I still suspect that Millennium will be playing catch-up for the remainder of its existence, replicating innovations from other sources, I'd be content with Encore if we could afford it.

Sure, but I think software and web design in general tends toward replication of currently popular methods. Applications are usable when they have features that are familiar to people (e.g. Microsoft is jumping on the tab bandwagon with Office 2007 and tagging is turning up everywhere).

Fair enough. Clearly many of those features I like in the Koha or Encore OPACs were taken from Amazon or Google innovations. Also, all the open source software I've tried at home falls into the category I'd label "pretty good for being free".

Its nice. How do you add tags? Do users? Maybe you have to log in to do it...I also like the pictures, but those can exist on non-Echo OPACs. It's nice that it looks like websites people might actually use, not just some OPAC that a library/tech person made up.

On a side note, I do like their room reservation system. I wish we had something like that.

Tagging can be set to staff-only or open to the public. I believe they are prompted to sign-in with their library card number in order to tag.
